What counts as a dupe
A dupe is an independently composed fragrance that lands close to a more expensive release — same core notes, same accord shape, a fraction of the price. It is not a counterfeit. ScentRank never lists fakes; every alternative on the platform is a legitimate perfume with its own name, house and formula.
Verified dupes vs estimated matches
Every alternative card carries a badge so you know why it appeared.
- Verified dupeSource-verified dupe relationships confirmed in the ScentRank catalogue. The percentage is the verified similarity; when no score is confirmed yet we say so instead of estimating one.
- Estimated matchGenerated by the similarity engine: shared-note overlap, accord strength distance and family match. Useful context, but never a dupe claim.
Reading the similarity ring
90%Similarity
85%+ — near-identical opening and dry-down. Most people will not tell them apart on skin.
76%Similarity
70–84% — clearly the same idea, with one note dialled up or down.
55%Similarity
Below 70% — same family and mood rather than a true swap.

How to shop dupes well
- Sort by similarity first, then re-sort by lowest price to see what you give up per pound saved.
- Read the honest-difference line — most dupes trade longevity or projection, not the accord itself.
- Save the dupe list to your collections so you can revisit the whole set before buying.
- Sample before committing; skin chemistry moves a 90% match further than any score can predict.
